Product reviews of Afirm 2X - 30 gm Review: No results, but will still keep trying. Beauty product: 2 Stars
I've been using this for about five months. I know it's doing something because my skin burns some and peels some, but I really haven't seen any positive results. I've researched retinol/Vitamin A and know it is supposed to help. This brand was the most affordable. I am 45 with wrinkles around my eyes and much sagging. I see no improvement. Frustrated. Will still keep trying and do what the other reviewer recommended: adding Obagi 20% Vit C serum to my regiment.
Review: Sub-Standard Formulation Beauty product: 1 Stars
This product is not for acne! While this product does contain vitamins A (retinol), E (tocopherol) , & C (ascorbyl palmitate) in a form that can be used by the skin (many other skin products do not) it also contains many hazardous ingredients, especially for acne suffers like fats, fatty acids, cholesterol, wax, and silicone oils; these ingredients will moisturize but also clog pores, make skin shiny, and may give people milia. In addition to this it contains trithanolamine a pH balancing ingredient that has been linked to cancer among many other health problems.
Retinol, a form of vitamin A is less stable, and less potent than prescription Vitamin A products, and could be less irritating to some but still has the potential to cause serious skin irritation. However even if Afirm had no Vitamin A, the other ingredients here including the additives that are meant to stabilize the retinol and prevent it from breaking down before it gets on your skin, are enough to cause serious reactions. I am shocked that DermaDoctor both recommends and sells this product without any warning. Any prescription vitamin A product would be much safer; there is much work to be done to make this product better!
Review: The Best Retinal / Vitamin A Cream in Price & Promise Beauty product: 5 Stars
I just turned 62 and have a fair complexion that is normal to slightly oily and have been using Afirm Vitamin A/ Retinal cream for 4 years and would never be without it! Used "properly" (i.e. applied at night only) this cream delivers on its promises. I begin with the lowest strength, (1X) and then after several months, graduated to the 2X strength. After about a year on the 2X, I tried the 3X, which unfortunately was a little too strong for my somewhat sensitive skin (mild flaking but no redness) causing me to return to the 2X strength.
Prior to using Afirm, I did a lot of on-line research of all the Retinal product ingredients as well as consumer reviews. I found that the Afirm line of Retinals were not only some of the strongest available (the % in each of the 3 strengths available is on their site) but also one of the least expensive, if not the cheapest! When the prescription form of Vitamin A cream first appeared on the market, I tried it. But I was in my late 30's to early 40's then and I did not really see any results, so quit using it after just one tube.
It is important to remember that this, like all skin products, Do Not Work Overnight!! So if you decide to try it, give it time! I personally did not begin to really see any affects until after 60 days use. I use Afirm 2x at night and Obagi 20% Vit C serum in the AM and today my skin is smoother, more firm and I no longer have the occasional "pimple" that I use to get (yep, even in my 50's I still had those little suckers pop up). For myself, I give Afirm a big thumbs up.
