Review: Excellent quality, durability, price

Highly recommend based on quality, durability, and price. No problems with this that the $100 Chi/Sedu/Solia irons have with durability based on their reviews. Might not get as hot, but I will be finding out soon since I am upgrading.
I have caucasian mixed coarse/very curly in parts/wavy hair in other parts that is thin-moderate thickness. It is very, very difficult to straighten the curly parts but much more manageable with this flat iron. I use straightening products most times and my hair is healthier with this flat iron vs revlon curling iron (and healthiest with heat protectant that I used less than 1/2 the time (no fancy salon brands)). I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a cheap high-quality flat iron and if you have shorter hair. If you have longer hair that is thin, you could probably still straighten within a reasonable period of time. If you have thick hair, it's time vs money. Best if hair is straightened in sections.
I don't think this iron burns my hair more than an average curling iron. My hair has always been on the dry side from straightening it and it looks healthier with this iron. I don't think it gets up to 420-F based on how some irons that get up to 400 make the hair so hot you burn your fingers after touching it (other reviews). I don't have that problem with this iron. My hair does get very hot sometimes. But either the insulation on this iron is excellent so my fingers don't feel it, it doesn't burn my hair too bad, or it doesn't get up to 420. Never experienced hair-pulling. Very smooth. Short clamp makes this ergonomic for women's hands and easy for clamping harder for those extra-hard parts.
I bought this flat iron at a TJ MAXX and I believe that it has functioned very well for almost 4 years. It still works great, but I think it is losing some heat (not drastic, definitely still great). The plates do not line up flush surface-to-surface--unless it is fully heated. I'm not sure if this is why it went to TJ MAXX or if this is just how the product is. But if you clamp it when it is cool, you will see gaps between the plates. I let it heat up while I blow dry my hair for less than 5 minutes or when I am in the shower and the gaps disappear.
There is no auto shut off. I have forgotten to turn it off for a few days at a time and (aside from fire hazard) I think this has taken away from its life/heat power somewhat.
The 1/2 inch is great for short hair and getting close to the scalp. I am upgrading to a 1 1/2" Sedu to see if it will go faster since I have grown my hair out past my shoulders, and I want something with adjustable heat. This flat iron was a huge upgrade from revlon/conair/etc.
Again, highly highly recommend. Very impressed with the quality, especially after reading the bad reviews of the more expensive irons out there.
