Stick Scents are a wonderful idea since they're a way to lightly scent a room without constantly burning candles or incense or using over-powering plug-in scents. However, the wrong scent can ruin a room and (as I'm experiencing at this very moment) make you nauseas. This packet comes with 2 nauseating scents (Holiday Spice and Winter Forest) and one nice scent (Candy Cane). I like the packaging. They come in containers much like tinker toys and pickup sticks once did with metal tops that will allow me to reseal the offending scents and throw them in the trash without continuing to stink up my house. And the wooden tops to the bottles absorb the oil that you drip when you turn the sticks over. They also look pretty on the shelf.
Since there are 3 of them, I'm allowing each of them 1.6 possible stars each out of the total 5 stars possible and rounding for my total number of stars which is 2.
CANDY CANE (1.6 stars):
Made from peppermint, eucalyptus, and vanilla essential oils, this is a delightful scent. When I first opened it up, my husband walked in and asked, "Why does it smell like I just snorted a candy cane?" However, the scent softens up after a couple of minutes and makes the room feel fresh and clean. To maintain the level of scent I like, I find that it's necessary to flip over the sticks once or twice a day. I have these Stick Scents sitting in my foyer, and I love coming home to their smell.
HOLIDAY SPICE (0 stars):
With ginger, cinnamon, maple, clove, and vanilla essential oils, these Stick Scents are awful. The cloves and maple are overpowering and make for a sicky-sweet smell which are nothing like the smell of gingerbread cookies that adorn the container. I couldn't stand them for more than 5 minutes. I think perhaps it would have been a better scent with less cloves and no maple.
WINTER FOREST (0 stars):
Pine, cedar, fir, hemlock, musk, and vanilla essential oils have been combined to make Stick Scents that smell like a bottle of Pine Sol or Lysol has been poured out in your room. And since this is the strongest of the 3 scents, permeating into the next room, it had to go lest I die of nauseating stink. I'm curious as to what cedar and vanilla might have smelled like together, but this was too much green for me.
I would buy Stick Scents again, but only if I could smell them in a store to know if I liked the scent or not.
EDIT: The Candy Cane version lasted nearly a year in our foyer before completely drying up. I mixed the remaining dregs with olive oil, vanilla flavoring, and dried mint leaves to get a little more bang out of it.
