This is a fantastic hair toner to achieve a platinum shade. To achieve platinum hair, you much bleach your hair over a period of time until it is very very pale yellow and super blonde. Then, it is time to use this toner to amp it up to a super platinum white-blonde. You apply the toner to clean, towel-dried hair. The toner must be mixed with a 20 volume developer to be effective (you can buy seperately, or buy a bleaching kit from cvs and use the developer inside) When you mix the toner with the developer, it will be creamy white. Cover every strand of hair wit the toner. The bottle says you can leave on up to 15 minutes, however as time passes, the mixture will begin to turn slightly purple, then gray. You want to rinse it out very soon after it begins to change color, or else the hair will become very slightly tinted gray, and will look muted rather than a crisp platinum. The point of a violet toner is to combat yellow and brassiness, but too much and the hair gets too silvery, so don't be tempted to leave it on more than 5-10 minutes, thinking that the longer its on the more platinum you will be. An essential step in maintaining platinum blonde hair, is using a purple shampoo. Clairol shimmer lights is fantastic and cheap(purchase online or at a sallys beauty store) as well as Schwarzkopf.
