Review: A Little Disappointed

The rollers are exactly as described. Cool to the touch with a velvety covering. The clips that come with the rollers work really well in keeping the rollers in your hair - however, for my hair they left indentions. I also bought the jumbo clips (extra) which don't work as well as the ones that come with the rollers. They also left indentions in my hair. This could just be that my hair is so fine. The disappointment comes in that the rollers just don't get hot enough to make good lasting curls (they are limp at best) - and with my hair being so fine and usually curling too much - I can't imagine that they would work very well on someone's hair that is thick or coarse. Review: A pity!

I bought this product and have it delivered all the way to Singapore. I have been using Remington's heated rollers and I love them, but I have been wanting to have bigger rollers to create Victoria Secret models' big, beautiful waves. So I was really excited when I found them. Unfortunately, after the first time, the side of the rollers which was made up of the silver velvety material started to burn! I noticed it when it produced a smell and smoke! The rollers are in danger of overheating without any homeostatic control mechanism unlike the Remington's heat rollers I've been using. Once, the heated rollers were so hot it almost burnt my scalp. While I like the jumbo-sized curlers so much, it's a real disappointment it's so dangerous to use it. Review: AWESOME for longer hair!

I got these for Christmas. I have wanted these for a while and I think I made the right selection. If you want wavy sexy curls this set of rollers is the way to go. They heat up very quickly, and create beautiful body and curls. I have been reading reviews here from people who commented that the clips were hard to use or that the rollers fell out of their hair. This is because the clips were not inserted properly around the roller. Point the clip prong end first directly at your scalp around the roller and then pivot the clip around the roller. The rollers will be held tightly using this method. Other commenters mentioned they ended up with no curl. As a cosmetologist I can tell you that dirty hair will not hold a curl. You must also wait until the rollers have completely cooled before taking them out. This would seem obvious to most people. Anyway, I LOVE these rollers. I have used them everyday since receiving them for Christmas and everyone has commented on my gorgeous hair. I myself have to admit I am able to create bouncy sexy curls and waves with these rollers and could not be more pleased. The clips could be easer to use if they were the "clamp" type. However, the ones that come with the set are perfectly fine if you know how to use them. These rollers will keep me growing longer hair now that I can create the same styles I see in fashion without the bother of having to use a curling iron. Perfect for those of us with long hair who are frustrated with the small size rollers that come in most hot roller sets. These JUMBO rollers are great for long hair. I reccomend these rollers highly! When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Such is my experience with the Conair instant heat jumbo-sized rollers.
I have long, straight, baby fine hair. As my hair grew past my shoulders I found that the old roller set I had, with the brown velvety colored rollers (you know the type, your moms have this set and it comes with three sizes of rollers and flexy metal stay put holders) wasn't giving me the big, bouncy 'Hollywood' curls I wanted so I looked around and found this set with it's jumbo rollers and instant heat styling.
Now, just to give you a little background, this isn't my first ride on the jumbo-roller-express. I bought a set of 8 jumbo rollers thirteen years ago, they were white, hard plastic with little poky things all around (I guess the pokies were meant to keep your hair from slipping off the rollers). They were an expensive waste of money. The rollers didn't get hot enough to do anything but make my head warm and the little pokies ripped my hair out (youch!).
Fast forward thirteen years, and I thought to myself, 'maybe the technology has caught up with jumbo rollers. I mean thirteen years ago we didn't have Ipods, super colliders and bedazzlers, surely something as simple as big bouncy curls can be achieved at home now!' I was pretty excited.
So, I bought these rollers and they suck almost as bad as the 1997 poky ones (on the plus side, they were less expensive). There is a strange dent in my hair from these rollers, they have a split in the side so that they can slide onto the heating element and the slit coincides with the dent. Speaking of heating, they don't. Heat up that is. I have tried giving them 5, 10, 15 and on one annoyingly boring day, 33 minutes to heat up and they just are never hot enough to do more than put a fuzzy dimple in my hair.
I've tried the rollers on newly washed and dried hair, slightly damp hair, slightly dirty hair (skipped a day of washing) and nada, didn't make a difference.
Arrgh, anyway, I don't know how to get big bouncy (and quickly styled hair) without having giant can rollers and a blow dryer (I'm too lazy to try it, but I've seen movie stars in magazines with cans in their hair, so it must work, right?).
My search continues . . .

I am really enjoying this product! I was a bit skeptical at first because of ye 'ol 'you get what you pay for' saying, but the reviews I read really helped in making my decision. I couldn't be more satisfied! = ) I didn't rate it a whole 5 stars simply because of the "clips" it comes with. They do NOT get the job done. They don't grab on to the roller well enough to keep it in place. So I do recommend buying a better set of clips for these. Other than that, I would say this is a great buy especially for the price! =D
