My several-year old Conair "Quiet 1875" has a cracked casing, so I purchased this to replace it. It is much, much, much noisier than my old Conair "Quiet 1875," takes twice as long to dry my hair and leaves it flat. It does leave my hair soft and shiny, but so did my old hair dryer. It also emits a lot of unpleasant odor, although that might change were I to keep using it (which I won't). I never write reviews, but if you want quiet, really, look elsewhere, such as the "Quiet 1875." I did not want a folding hair dryer, which is the only version of the "Quiet 1875" available on the 'Zon, but I wish I had bought the folding version of the "Quiet 1875" instead of this. In sum, if you are looking for a quiet hair dryer that dries your hair in a reasonable amount of time and also leaves it soft, shiny and looking great, you can do much better without breaking the bank with the "Quiet 1875." It's a hairdryer. It blows cold air over a heating element and makes it hot. That hot air evaporates and carries away the water in your hair, making it dry. Hardly rocket science. It does all the above well.
The "ion" function only works when the cold blast button is pressed, so I don't have to worry about where all those extra electrons hangin' off the negative ions will end up.
The overall slow speed of the fan coupled with the diffuser makes a nice, safe warmer for cold winter feet, too.

I just bought this hair dryer and it works amazing. I don't agree with the below comment that it takes longer to dry your hair -- I found it a little faster. It is on the heavier side -- but not unbearable.I have strange texture to my hair -- the top layer is straight and the underneath curly - and not a pretty curl. So I spend most of my mornings straightening my hair with a round brush and then a porcelain hot iron. Well -- this dryer makes my hair MUCH straighter and I barely have to use the hot iron (which I don't like to use, since it's damaging). I totally recommend this hair dryer or something similar if you have tough to straighten hair.
