Ultra Primrose Oil contains nearly 3 times the amount of GLA as found in other supplements. The body does not manufacture GLA so it must be supplied through diet and supplementation. The essential fatty acids supplied by Ultra Primrose Oil support the health of cell membranes throughout the body, and helps maintain a healthy inflammation response. What are Essential Fatty Acids? Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are the main structural components of the body's cell membranes, and therefore a balanced intake of fatty acids is necessary for healthy cell function. EFAs cannot be synthesized by the body and must be provided through diet and supplementation. There are two primary types of EFAs - Omega 3 Alpha Linolenic Acid and Omega 6 Linoleic Acid. These fatty acids are the precursors of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a fatty acid that the body converts to hormone-like prostaglandins (PGE-1). PEG-1 plays an active role in the body's inflammation response and promotes healthy cell development. Essential fatty acids are critical to four primary body functions: energy production, maintaining body temperature, insulating nerves, and cushioning and protecting body tissues. Prostaglandins are powerful health "gladiators" cascading through the body performing a wide range of vital functions. PGE-1 performs a crucial role in circulatory system.
