Product reviews of Get Real Soap Mint 4.50 Ounces Review: Intense and Peppermints, Strawberry Wine! Beauty product: 5 Stars
What I said about Get Real LEMON SOAP applies equally to their great MINT "flavor: "Even if GET REAL lemon soap didn't work so well, I'd buy it for the package; it's almost," as good as the sage and cryptic allusions on Dr. Bronner's soap containers."
Before getting to the soap, let me quote various nuggets from the package, a post-modernist lowbrow/highbrow mixture right out of Warhol (with a bit of McLuhan). The blue, green, and tiger covered front proclaims that this is "SOAP WITH BITE--WIldly Exfoliating"..."GOOD and gritty SOAP," with "NO FAKE CRAP. You can smell the mint through a hole that corresponds to the cover tiger's mouth. Why a Tiger? Apparently, because
* "you are growling for a serious scrub"
* the "Fresh, raw mint awakens yourcat-like snese of smell"
* You're about to "earn your clean stripes"
They even grade the soap for you: AAA, a mere single A is "smooth, AA is "Medium", but AAA is "Gnarly Fresh Gnaw." I think there is no A or AA, it's more tongue-in-cheek humor from the manufacturer.
So, who is this company that so artfully combines creativity with commerce? It's Blue Q (blueQ.com, of course) of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, a company with conscience enough to use recycled paper and to proudly employ a work force of disabled and non-disabled staff. The product design department clearly deserves their own triple AAA for the packaging, but what about the soap?
The first thing I noticed was the incredibly SMOOTH, luxurious lather--creamy, milk-like. The soap immerses your skin in soft, medium suds with the ocnsistency of a fine lotion. The mint (peppermint and speermint) scent builds slowly, culminating in strong, but not overpowering scents. It is defintely not of those who don;t like the smell of mint, but that should be pretty obvious. One side of the soap is all nubby, providing a sure grip in the shower or over the sink.
My one caution is that one should not use too much. Despite the presence of some fine moisturizers (e.g., palm and coconut oil, avocado butter, and jojoba oil), it also contains "essential oils of peppermint and spearment," and these oils have an astringent quality. That's great for oily skin, but if you use too much, or don't rinse sufficiently, you may feel a slightly uncomfortable "pulling" or "drying" sensation, probably due to the astringency. The second time I used this, I folllowed my suggestions above and had little or no problems. Still, this may not be the right soap for dry or delicate skin. ALternately, you might want to use it as a body soap, excluding your face.
For the full sensual experience, chew on some Altoids while washing, and get out your "Best of Strawberry Alarm Clock" CD. "Sha la la," indeed!
Buy it for the package; keep it for the yummy soap inside.
