I have purchased four or five of these curling irons over the past 3-4 years. This is the best ceramic curling iron I've found for the price (I've neve spent more than $50). However, with this latest purchase (11/2007), I don't think the iron gets as hot as it used to...probably not a big deal for most, but my hair is coarse and naturally wavy so the heat is needed to make it smooth and soft. Note that irons that get extremely hot such as this last a maximum of a year (I use mine maybe 4-5 days/week). The gold does peel off under the clamp after a while. Better than any ceramic I've purchased at the drug store. Review: Works beautifully!

I have fine hair and was looking for a curling iron that heats up well and is easy to use without catching and pulling on hairs. This curling iron heats up to 390 or so degrees and it stays very hot. It really feels like something professionals would use. The 1 and 1/2 barrel was a bit large for my hair. You need to have really long hair and if your hair is fine, you're better off using the 1 inch or 11/4 size to create a tight curl, because the curls will loosen up. I also purchased the 1 inch, which I love as well. The size you should use really depends on your hair length and thickness, but as far as the curling iron, it works beautifully.
