Review: Hand sanitizer without the sting
Beauty product: 5 Stars

I work in a hospital and need to wash my hands and use hand sanitzer often. The problem with the hospital supplied product is that it contains alcohol which is very drying and resulted in painful cracks in my skin which obviously creates additional infection control issues. This works very well and this smaller size is great for my purse or scrub pocket at work. My hands feel softer after use of this product. I initialy found this product in Costco but they have discontinued it. It is very difficult to find now.

Review: Weapon of choice for the germophobe!
Beauty product: 5 Stars

Alcohol-based hand saniters are popular and as a Certified Germophobe I have bottles in my office, car, and every room in the house...but the science says that alcohol-free formulations with benzalkonium chloride (active ingredient) and allantoin (skin protectant) are superior:

"The most widely used hand sanitizers are gels and foams that rely on alcohol as the main antimicrobial ingredient. Alcohol, however, solubilizes and strips away sebum and lipids that guard against bacterial infections of the skin. Extensive use of alcohol-containing hand sanitizers actually increases the skin's susceptibility to infection by transient disease-causing bacteria. This situation can increase the chances of spreading disease-causing microorganisms among patients.

The threat of spreading disease could be avoided by using alcohol-free hand sanitizers that complement, rather than compromise, the natural barrier functions of the skin. An acceptable alcohol-free formula would require an antimicrobial agent that kills a wide variety of disease-causing microorganisms, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungus, and molds. This formula also would need to allow the active ingredient to penetrate the skin while minimizing skin irritation.

Such a formula is obtained by combining certain surfactants and allantoin with the widely used antimicrobial agent, benzalkonium chloride. This formula is known as a surfactant, allantoin, and benzalkonium chloride (SAB) sanitizer."

Google "Testing a new alcohol-free hand sanitizer to combat infection" to find the study.

In addition to being a germophobe, I also am very sensitive to perfumes and hate pretty much all fragrances. However, there doesn't seem to be an unscented version in this size dispenser, so to test the product I ordered several bottles in this size and a 60-oz unscented dispenser so that I can refill the small bottles with the unscented version. I was pleased to find that even the scented version is so mild that it didn't bother me, although I will still use unscented from large refill bottles going forward. The pump does the foaming; the product liquid is reminiscent of bubble fluid.

If you're a germophobe like me -- and you wouldn't be reading this if you weren't! -- this is the way to go. And yes, it's nice not to have constantly dry hands anymore. Little did I know my germ killing efforts were subpar just for that reason!
