Review: Great quality castor oil, but shop around for best price on site
Beauty product: 5 Stars

Home Health brand castor oil is produced in a similar way to Heritage brand's castor oil. The oil is cold pressed without using hexane to extract the oil from the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis). I've used this oil from everything to clearing up cysts, in castor oil packs, to curb inflammation, seal moisture into my dry hair and to cleanse my scalp.

Sleeping prophet Edgar Cayce called castor oil "Palma Christi," or "the palm of christ" for its ability to heal and treat an innumerable amount of ailments. Supposedly Egyptians used it in past cultures to address illness, while Indians used it in Ayurvedic medicine (swallowing spoonfuls) for internal cleansing. I once did this, but no longer recommend it as a laxative since it can irritate the stomach lining (especially if it's a chronic condition).

What's the difference between the two brands. Not sure, but it may help to keep the following in mind. In a May 2010 article, Virginia Based Heritage Products (which also produces cold-pressed castor oil and follows Cayce's readings) claim to keep a tight ship when overseeing what their growers put into their products. I'm not sure what type of quality control that Home Health exercises over the crops they produce.

Please refer to Harold J. Reilly's "The Edgar Cayce Handbook of Health through Drugless Therapy Book" for directions on creating a castor oil pack with wool. Some may be available through an Internet search.

Before purchasing this product, please shop around, since the price tag from some vendors selling this oil tends to be overpriced. There are those that sell it at a reasonable price. Buyer beware.

Review: Quality Castor Oil
Beauty product: 5 Stars

Very pleased with the service & quality of this Castor Oil product.....probably most folks reading this rely on a lot of home health remedies so I'll share one you probably haven't tried that's been a fluke healing.

I over-heat easily & frequently break-out in a prickly heat/dermatitis combo which takes weeks to resolve. On a lark, I tried rubbing castor oil over the prickly heat areas and couldn't believe it was disappearing in minutes (I kid you not) I rinse the areas lightly with a warm cloth, leaving most of the oil to do its magic; the dermatitis issues do not heal as quickly but it clears within days instead of weeks using the same Rx. This may well be an accepted remedy, I didn't know about; but, just in case you too didn't know: it is truly remarkable, give it a try.

Review: Very good for helping your health

My 62 year old mom raised me telling me that castor oil is a miracle cure. She uses it as a moisturizer (and only did so for a FEW years), but looks 20 years younger than her age. Nobody can believe her actual age.

I used to use castor oil rubbed on my stomach when I had bad cramps during my period or was *ahem* constipated -- this really helped simply being used externally!

I now get enough fiber *yay*, but I still use castor oil for cramps and stomach aches. I also use it in and around my eyes, mouth, and on bruises:

*This helps soothe my eyes. If I use too much it can be annoying, but I like to put it in my tear duct or on my eyelashes and have it drip a little in my eye. This helps me with dry eyes, redness, irritation, and inflammation.

*This helps me with tooth sensitivity, swollen gums, and chapped lips. I like to take this and pour it along my gum lines and a bit on my lips. I will then press my gum line to my teeth and use my tongue to get it all around my teeth. I will leave this for around 15 minutes and for the next week will experience NO tooth sensitivity!
-This also helps relieve my sensitive gums!

*I also use this on bruises. At my job, I tend to get bruises around my legs from moving large objects very quickly (I'm 4'11"). Using castor oil relieves and helps these bruises disappear very quickly.

Castor oil is a very THICK emollient oil, however, I do believe it has healing properties from personal experience. I would not recommend this as a moisturizer for the entire body, unless mixed with something else as it is very thick and sticky -- however, I highly recommend using this on your face if you are just hanging around the house. I am not a doctor, so won't recommend the above that I do, but if you would like to do your own research on how castor oil has helped me and may be able to help you I hope what I wrote helps you!

I love castor oil, and it is very soothing to put on my face as a moisturizing treatment.
ps: I am acne-prone and castor oil does NOT cause me to breakout! :D
