Review: Doesn't hold curl or straighten for me

I purchased this iron (not through Amazon) about 4 years ago, figuring the dual functionality would meet my current need for both a larger width curling iron and a flat iron. Using it as a curling iron, it doesn't seem to get hot enough to appropriately curl the hair for such a diameter (the idea is that a larger barrel will have looser curls, thus the curl can potentially "fall out" easier and faster). However, I've since purchased a separate 1.5" diameter curling iron and saw a TREMENDOUS difference in the heat and longevity of the curl with the new iron. So unfortunately it "fails" as a curling iron for me.
Using this as a flat iron, I noticed my hair got caught and tangled quite frequently. When pulling the iron from the root to tip to straighten, it wasn't as effortless or smooth as a traditional flat iron. I tried this a couple times only to yank out more strands of hair out of my head than I'd like, so I've decided its purpose is neither a flat iron OR a curling iron for me personally.
As a note, I have long (mid-back) and straight hair (although a section underneath in the back has a wave)
