Product reviews of Hot Tool 1196 1 1/2" Curling & Flat Iron Review: Great multi-purpose iron Beauty product: 4 Stars
Bought this product for a Spa. Great for our guests, allows us to offer more hair accessories, and takes up less counter space.
Review: Pros-Curls my Hair Cons-Where do I begin? Beauty product: 3 Stars
After years of struggling with flat irons that gave me limp, messy results, I finally found a tool that has the best of both worlds--Perfect curls, fabulous flat ironing. It was just like my hair stylist had come for a visit. However, (and this is why it gets a three...) when this gets too hot, the handle can hardly be picked up. A temp turning down can fix this. But as a woman with full, thick hair, a lower heat setting will not curl the hair. On top of that, there is the lock button. Used, moved, and rattled enough times, it will break. I have had two of these irons, by the way. The first got knocked over on accident (while locked) by my ex-boyfriend. The second one just recently came apart. Since I love this tool, one could assume I treated it like a scoop of soft ice cream. But alas through regular use, this lock mechanism also came apart. Now, I have a triple struggle--trying not to burn myself on the handle, keeping the curling iron shut when I want to curl only, and deciding whether or not to keep on buying these because I love them.
As much as I love hot tools, this is really wearing a hole in my pocket.
Review: What a disapointment Beauty product: 2 Stars
I had high hopes for this iron, I have been looking for a combo iron for a long time and my hair dresser suggested hot tools because they get really hot and should do a good job on my very curly, very long hair.
Well, it is fucntional, the size is great but the handle burned me several times, the release it not covered in rubber and has metal under.
The flat iron did not do a great job, I use a Conair extra large ceramic iron now that is a lot better. The curly iron is fine, it will get your hair stuck a couple of times but will leave big curls, the only problem is that they do not last and the next day you will need to do it again.
I have decided to return this product and stick to my old Conair instant heat, cheap little iron and return to my search for the perfect combo iron under $50.00.
Review: not good at both Beauty product: 3 Stars
I've had this Hot Tools for a month. I have very coarse hair so I need to set the temperature to the highest level. Unfortunately, it makes some parts of the handle hot. It is very good as a curling iron but only ok as a flat iron. It feels sturdy but the latch that locks the flat iron so it could be used as a curling iron feels like it could break easily (but it hasn't yet). It's light weight enough to travel with but is a little longer than others I've used.
