I have short thick lashes. They are also brown so while I'm not as bad as my sister (who has blonde blonde eyelashes and always wears mascara) I still have to put a little on. Now L'Oreal got this idea from an expensive make up line called Givenchy it's their Phenomen 'Eyes Mascara. Their ball is bigger (teehee) but it does about the same work.
Now I tried putting it on by itself and was really disappointed. It took way too long and made my normally thick eyelashes look a little thiner than when I wear normal mascara. But I got an idea, I love the thick thick brushes, but sometimes they are too big and don't separate the lashes.... so what if I put this one on over my normal mascara? The result was pretty good, I especially like this product for the lower lashes, and getting into the corner of the eye. It separated my lashes, and since it was a second coat, it made them look longer.
I gave it a 2.5 stars because I don't want to pay $7-8 dollars for mascara that I have to use over other mascara. I can see how if you have really thin eye lashes this might be easier to get to them, but if you have long or thick ones, it will take too much time. My favorite is still the Cover Girl EyeLights mascara in all the different colors.
