Late in 2000, I began using Nioxin cleanser and scalp therapy - #3. It halted my hair loss.
So over these years, I've been starting and stopping with these products, which is stupid. You have to use it all the time. You can buy cheap shampoo and conditioner, but your hair loss will start again. You have to ask yourself whether you want better hair or more money in your wallet.
I do not worry about the money anymore, and I use liberal amounts of product when cleaning my hair. A hairdresser told me in 2000 that a bottle of the cleanser lasts a long time because it is very concentrated and you only need a dab. This is not true -- at least not for me. To get it to lather up really well, you need to wet your hair thoroughly and apply a generous amount of the stuff. Or, you can use a dab, work it in, rinse, then apply another dab, and then it will lather up well.
About a year ago +/-, I started using the #2 versions of these products. I was wasting my money, having forgotten that the good stuff has a gold cap. I still got big wads of hair during comb-out after shampooing and I didn't notice any new hair growing back. I almost canned the whole idea of Nioxin until I decided to try the #3 again.
I've been using the #3 product (with the gold cap) for the past month or more. It seems the hair loss is less and I see little hairs coming in on a few thin areas up near my face. I do not shampoo every day. I think if I did, the product would work even better like it used to when I did shampoo daily. I'm not sure about this, but my common sense tells me it's true.
With the #2, I did not feel the tingling while using the scalp treatment, but with #3, the tingling does occur. I interpret this to mean the product is really working. I also work both products into my scalp for a couple minutes; the more you work it in, the more it tingles.
