Product reviews of Obsidian Wheel Incense Burner - Shoyeido Premium Crafted Ceramic Holder Review: Holds firm Beauty product: 4 Stars
I have to break some of the wood of the end on some incense sticks but it really does hold firm afterwards!
Review: Shininess Beauty product: 5 Stars
I bought one of these a couple of years ago, and it's one of my very favorite incense holders, right up there with a DeBaun original ceramic that I was lucky enough to get.
It's obsidian black ceramic and has a shiny glaze that reflects the light in neat ways. I think it's mostly made for the Japanese incense sticks like Morning Star, but you can also use regular stick incense in it. If you use regular incense, it can lean a little bit unless you break off the stick part. It wastes a little incense, but not much. The Japanese sticks are held very sturdily and upright without any problem and without doing anything to them.
The hole in it goes all the way through, so getting rid of the remnants of the old stick is simply pushing another stick through to push it out. I've never had to do anything else to it other than wipe it out once in a while to keep the shininess shining through.
I'm now back to buy a bunch of these for gifts this year, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on this burner, especially since it seems to be getting a bad rap when it shouldn't be.
Review: Works for me! Beauty product: 5 Stars
I bought this a few months ago and got it because other incense holders spilled all over, outside the holder. I like the snug fit where the wheel fits the incense stick and it stands straight up. If the stick is too thin, which happens occasionally, I bend a small piece at the end of the stick and double it. It always stands straight and I have no more messy counter top! I love that this holder is made with Obsidian because this gemstone (lava glass) is a great protection stone and represents insight and change.
Review: like it, but.... Beauty product: 4 Stars
I suppose I bought this thing because it is classy, small, simple and minimalistic, and it is truly all those things. However, the incense does not always stand straight up and therefore the ashes sometimes fall over the sides of the dish and right onto the table, creating a mess. I can see how this may cause some people to choose the other types of incense holders. But overall I have to say that I am nonetheless pleased with this purchase.
Review: not worth the price Beauty product: 2 Stars
I must have had a really stupid moment. I bought this because I actually thought it was obsidian, as in the rock. It is ceramic painted a shiny black. It does say "ceramic" Duh. If I had fully realized what I was doing, I would have bought the green one for $3.99! I sure wouldn't have paid $18 plus shipping.
