Product reviews of PUREOLOGY by Pureology: HYDRATE SHAMPOO Review: Expensive, but fantastic for dry & colored hair! Beauty product: 5 Stars
I had been searching for a long time to find a shampoo that would truly moisturize my hair. I have fine hair but tons of it, so it is thick and will frizz at the slightest hint of humidity. It is also highlighted 3 or 4 times a year AND I blow dry it nearly every day -- needless to say, my hair needs pampering to look its best! Pureology Hydrate Shampoo does just that: it hydrates dry, damaged hair. It has a minty sort of smell that I find natural and refreshing; although it is a bit strong at first, by the time I am finished styling the minty smell is gone and my hair just smells fresh & clean. One of the best things about the Pureology line is that they do not use sulfates, which are harsh chemicals that can strip your hair, particularly if your hair is color treated. This is a gentle product and although expensive, a little goes a long way. I recommend using the Hydrate Conditioner as well. Your hair will look healthy and lush!
Review: Great for colored hair Beauty product: 5 Stars
Use just a tiny bit for excellent results. Since using this product, my hair color has not faded one bit between colorings. I love it - and it lasts forever!
Review: Overrated. Beauty product: 3 Stars
While I applaud this product for being 100% natural, it smells funky. Used in conjunction with the conditioner, you ultimately don't notice the scent because the conditioner has this minty freshness. The shampoo, however, does not possess the same minty smell. That being said, the hydrate line is the best smelling line within the pureology system.
It is my understanding from my colorist that the pureology hydrate line is designed to restore and "heal" your seriously damaged color treated hair. However, it can be overwhelming for healthy hair.
My complaint with this product is that, used in conjunction with the conditioner, after two weeks of daily usage it left a residue or film on my hair. It would require I use a clarifying shampoo to remove the residue and I became concerned that the clarifying shampoo would be too harsh on my color. Another complaint is the price of this product. I believe that it is overpriced for the results that it yields. If you are willing to pay for this product, I would suggest you spend an extra $5 and purchase the kerastase bain satin.
I currently use Redken's Color Extend and am much happier with the results. My hair is soft, silky, and my color looks fabulous. Plus, the product smells better and is much more reasonably priced.
Review: Still testing but not sure if I like it Beauty product: 3 Stars
I'm doing a lot of experimenting with Pureology shampoos and conditioners lately as a new Pureology "user".
First of all, I LOVE the scent of this shampoo. Nothing else like it!
I've only used the Hydrate shampoo twice, and today my scalp doesn't feel as clean & my hair not bouncy. Maybe even a bit limp. (my hair is fine, thin, straight, shoulder-length & 95% gray but colored with Level 3)
I used VO5 Clarifying Vanilla Mint shampoo yesterday, and the wonderful bounce/feel/volume I got just isn't happening today with the Hydrate shampoo. Do I need to use this for awhile before I notice anything?
This does lather up beautifully, but even with my fine hair, I had a hard time getting those suds onto my scalp. Just didn't feel squeaky clean at the scalp while washing.
Bottom line - I probably need to stick with one shampoo for a whole week before rating. Maybe with regular use, I'll like it better.
See my other review that covers Pureology Volume Shampoo & Conditioner, and Pureology Hydrate Conditioner. I think Pureology might not be for me as haven't raved about any of these products.
Review: Won't fade color Beauty product: 5 Stars
I love this shampoo! It thoroughly cleans my hair without drying it out or fading the color. Also it smells great.
I won't ever go back to my other shampoos.
