Product reviews of Philosophy The Present Clear Makeup Review: What to say.... Beauty product: 5 Stars
I recently bought this product after hearing and reading great reviews on it (the good ones out weighed the bad) as I got the chicken pox in the summer and was left with large scars on my cheeks.
The present seriously reduced the size of the marks, by half I would say, which IS BRILLIANT!
It also toned down the redness in my skin, which I loved!
The only down side (very small downside) was after I applied a small amount to my skin and left it to dry for the two mins, putting liquid foundation over it was a little more difficult than usual. More make up has to be applied to avoid a streaky type of look and more blending has to be done (I use a foundation brush, so it could be a different story using a sponge...which I think I will try!)
Although, if you just use a mineral powder foundation, then it goes on effortlessly and looks lovely AND stays on all day long.
For that down side mentioned, that is a HUGGGE upside, my makeup stayed on for the whole day, that can't be beaten!
Ladies and gents, the main reason I got this, as I said, was to reduce the size of the marks left on my face after the chicken pox, and if you are looking for a primer that works on marks and scars, then this is the one for you. A little bit more patience applying foundation is worth it, I promise!
Review: didn't do a lot on already good skin Beauty product: 3 Stars
As with all new Philosophy products, I ordered this as soon as I found out about it, and tried it as soon as the UPS man brought it (I get excited because their skincare products are just so good). It's taken some time to try this repeatedly and think about my review. In spite of my not young age, my skin looks pretty great makeup-free. This is because of an extreme addiction to Philosophy (Purity Made Simple cleanser, When Hope Is Not Enough serum, Hope in a Jar moisturizer, two-part peels on a weekly basis, eye and lip cream, etc. etc.) and a little help from a laser. I always want my skin to look even BETTER though, so I hoped this product would do it. Putting it on, I have not experienced the "glue" effect some others complain about. It went on just how I expected. After waiting for it to dry, I did not notice a big "soft focus" effect, however. Because my skin is smooth and clear, it just made it look matte, as it does when I wear a very matte makeup. It decreased the natural contrast of the color on cheekbones and other highlight areas, so there is no natural "glow". Paired with "Airbrushed Canvas" mineral powder from Philosophy, it is about the same effect you get with "Bare Minerals". Not my favorite, but maybe really good for people with uneven or blotchey skin. As a primer, I have to say I prefer silicone under a very high quality liquid makeup when I do wear foundation (very rarely and less and less as I pry myself out of the '80s). I think this may be one of the Philosophy products that is really good for some people and not for others. To make your skin look great without ANY cosmetic, use the actual Philosophy skincare line religiously, and your skin will look better and better every day. Seriously. It has worked for me!
Review: does work well Beauty product: 5 Stars
this is a reallyy good stuff. i actually hesitated buying this a lot cuz have never used foundations or premier things.i'm just turned 21 and feel like that i need to cover up my face with this kind of thing as time goes by because of bit acnes and wrinkles on my face. it really worked well for me, but i'm not quite sure if it works for others as well. it just cover littlest things very silghtly.
Review: hoped for more... Beauty product: 2 Stars
After reading rave reviews on Sephora and Amazon.com, I was pumped to make The Present my first primer and first Philosophy product.
My introductions to primers began on a vacation at an Ulta where a sales associate turned me to Studio Gear's Prime Objective Primer. I'll admit I was very apprehensive about the silicon feel and it deterred me from purchasing the primer even after the sales associate demonstrated the product on the back of my hand. Later that evening, I was very enthusiastic and surprised that my skin still felt like a baby's bottom. When getting back from my vacation I decided that I would also use the sales associate's advice and purchase a Philosophy product.
Online, I searched for primers and found what I thought would have been a perfect combination of the Ulta advice and purchased The Present by Philosophy. When the package came in the mail I was enthusiastic, looking forward to experiencing the positive reviews found on Sephora and Amazon. Sadly, I was disappointed.
With skin that doesn't undergo much acne, but is prone to redness and uneven texture, I was hoping for The Present to minimize my appearance of pores. I have sensitive/combination skin. My pores tend to be large on my cheeks and lower forehead and trying to treat larger pores with oil reducing cleansers leave my skin completely dry and flaky. What I found with The Present (after cleansing, moisturizing, applying and waiting 2 minutes) was that it leaves my skin very, very soft, but the reduction of pores does not seem to happen. Hoping for an even texture on my face, I applied my powder matte foundation (Bare Minerals) and my depth and appearance of pores seemed to be more prevalent than not using the primer before a make up application.
I did not experience the glue feeling that some people have claimed and I actually enjoyed the smell of lavender in the primer. As with all Philosophy products, the design of the container is very attractive. My disappointment is mostly with the end result.
Review: not what i expected Beauty product: 3 Stars
i got this thinking it'd be the perfect primer and will smooth my skin and make me flawless, but no, it doesn't really do anything but keep my skin feeling hydrated all day long. if you got large pores or uneven texture to hide, i say PrimeTime by bare minerals or Velvet Skin by DHC both work 100times better.
