Product reviews of Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream - 3.6 oz Review: A little too tingly Beauty product: 3 Stars
I had great hopes for this product but have come to dislike the 'hot/cold' sensation that it gives to my skin.
Review: A new way to shave Beauty product: 4 Stars
I recently made the decision to leave behind this "new" way to shave with Edge gel and Mach 3's (Fusions actually were not as good for me) partially due to the price of the blades, but a large part of me is wanting to do things the "old" way. Regarding the price of fancy blades I'm doing something that seems to be faux pas now and exercising my choice as a consumer in a "free market" and telling Gillette to "get bent." I'm not buying their $2.00 blades anymore (Costco price). I'm trying both a double edge safety razor and a straight edge. Well, after the first shave with some shaving soap I thought would be great, it wasn't fun. Came to the conclusion that shaving soaps may not be the way to go. I live in an arid environment; very dry here. My water is extremely hard and I don't use a softener. And my beard is genetic from my Syrian heritage (very dense). So, ordered up some Proraso Pre-Shave Cream and some of their Shave Cream in a tube. After the first use I've decided that these products are what I should be using now. My only gripe about this product (4 stars, not 5) is the amount for the price. It's a pretty small jar. However, I think you can use it sparingly and get the right effect.
I apply this to my beard and spread it around evenly. About a two lightly coated fingertips seems to be enough. I then use the time it needs to soak in and soften the beard to whip up my lather, which takes about 2 minutes. The Proraso shave cream goes a long ways too, about the size of an almond is all it takes to get enough lather for a 3 pass shave if needed. The cooling sensation from the menthol is nice and makes the shave go easier for me.
I did use this for some post shave as well. It helped, but not sure it's the effect I'm going for. I think I'd like to try some other stuff as well so I just ordered another Proraso aftershave product to try out.
Part of me misses the speediness that I could shave with Edge Gel and Mach 3, but I'm enjoying this new ritual of doing things the old fashioned way and saving money on blades. In my current job I need to shave more often. At the very least every other day. In my previous job I shaved whenever I wanted, which was 4 to 6 days of growth usually.
I say try this product out, and the others by this company as well. I think you'll like them. I'll definitely be re-ordering. Definitely since the seller is fulfilling through Amazon so I can use my Prime membership to get them quick.
Review: A shaving staple item Beauty product: 5 Stars
Excellent "staple item" in any shaving arsenal. Best in tandem with other Proraso shaving products (shaving cream & lotion, specifically).
Review: A wonderful sensation Beauty product: 5 Stars
I finally "opened my eyes" recently and have switched from using cartridge shavers/canned shaving foams/ etc to the way shaving was meant to be done. Based upon the reviews, I purchased this product along with the Proraso shaving creme. Just two shaves in, I feel like I've emerged from the Dark Ages into the Light. This creme smells great, and feels incredibly great on my face and head (I also shave my head). I no longer feel my face burn and hours later, the scent lingers and the cooling sensation persists. I'll never go back to the overmarketed, overhyped days of "fast food" shaving.
Review: Amazing! Beauty product: 4 Stars
This stuff, along with "Proraso Shaving Soap Aloe and Green Tea" and my Gillette Fusion razor is literally the closest, smoothest and best shave I've ever had in my entire life. I used to use Nair on my neck 20 years ago when I was camping in the woods for two weeks. I can't remember if that left me feeling as smooth as this combination or not. There really is nothing else that comes close. I will never go back to shaving foam or gel in a can ever again. I find myself stroking my face way to often in disbelief of how smooth my face feels. Boyishly smooth! I once saw a Beatle Baily cartoon strip of Sarge shaving with a sanding disc on a power grinder. That's me. There was a time where I could shave once in the morning to go to work and a second time in the evening to go out. No more. I used to have 5 o'clock shadow by early afternoon. With the combination I described above I don't get it until the next morning.
I've also tried the Proraso pre-shave cream and shaving cream with a Panasonic wet/dry shaver. The shaver works better than without it but I still get 5 o'clock shadow with it.
I have not tried the pre-shave cream as an after-shave. The instructions on the can say to do so. I'm a big fan of [...] after-shave balms. I haven't used after-shave in years but I just love the smoothness and lack of irritation I get when using the balms along with this cream and the Proraso shaving soap.
I will agree with another reviewer who said Proraso soap is better than the cream. The cream is still better than anything in a can.
I gave his product only 4 stars instead of 5, despite the amazing, close and super smooth shave becuase when I put it on it feels like the surface temperature of my face drops 15 degrees. I like a hot shower, not stuff that makes my face feel cold. That said, until someone invents something that can give me as smooth a shave as this stuff, I'll be using it for years to come. Thanks, Proraso!
