I bought this straightener as a quick replacement for my Remington emi (which was AMAZING but stopped turning on after about 3 years use). BIG MISTAKE. Yes I have thick hair, but it's shoulder length, mostly naturally straight, and fine-textured. It usually doesn't take more than 10 minutes for me to make it pin straight. Not with this "iron". I had to swipe it through each chunk about 5 times to see results, not to mention that the rough plates ripped out at least two hairs per swipe. OUCH. I actually doubt they're even ceramic. Might as well straighten your hair with a hot cheese grater. And good luck straightening at the top-and-only heat setting... a face-melting 410 degrees. Normally I wouldn't ever run something that hot through my hair, so the fact that this chunk of metal couldn't straighten my hair at the supposed 410 should tell you how much this thing sucks. I think my hand got hotter from holding the iron than my hair did. After wrestling with it for a month, I gave up and tossed it. And scheduled an emergency haircut (way before I normally would have) to chop all the dead ends and breakage I had.
LONG STORY SHORT: don't waste your $$$ on this unless you're willing to get your haircut every other week.
