The cube is very hard and quite dry and can develop cracks if it's stored for awhile. However, the cracks aren't a problem when you start to use it. It has a medium amount of lather and a smooth feel. (I tried the olive oil soap but quit after I got a splinter from an olive pit fragment.) The density of the soap makes it last much longer than most soaps. I would not say it's mild, but neither is it very caustic. I prefer this soap to both Dr. Bronner's (Castile unscented) and Pure (unscented) and believe it is less expensive by weight and definitely by use.
