I happened across this product indirectly after buying some of Sawyer's insect repellant in preparation for a two-month cross country camping trip a few summers ago. The literature with the repellant impressed me with the company's scientific approach, including the R & D behind their sunscreen, so I decided to buy some. It was hard to find and I had to order it on line, but boy, was it worth it! We headed out on our trip (me, my wife, and my three young boys) and spent all summer out doors all day. All we had to do was put on the Sawyer Sun-Block once in the morning and that was it! None of us ever burned. When I got home to Florida, I ordered a bunch more. Our morning routine, every day here in the land of sunshine, is to brush our teeth and put on sunscreen immediately after waking up. (This sunscreen does have to be applied before your skin gets hot.) For normal days, we don't have to worry about sunscreen the rest of the day. The only time we've had to re-apply (Sawyers #2--designed for application to hot skin) is if we spend all day out on the boat--the double whammy of the sun's reflection off the water requires a mid-day booster. We've been very impressed with the product, and I'm very happy to discover that I can now order it from Amazon.

Sun Block Technology - Sawyer Products provides a variety of sunscreen lotions, featuring Bonding Base® technology, from a SPF 30 to a SPF 45. These products were developed in the 1980's with the use of outdoor testing in Hawaii under Ultra Violet radiation (UV) conditions more intense than in the U.S. mainland. UV radiation is one of the most important factors in the development of risk for skin cancer. Bonding Base Sun Blocks feature a unique technology that allows the lotion to attach to the skin and therefore resist water and physical abrasion. This allows the products to remain on the skin much longer than non-bonding base sunscreens. They provide UVA and UVB protection,and are hypoallergenic, waterproof, greaseless, and fragrance free. Stringent Testing - The Bonding Base Sun Blocks are included in stringent testing programs. They are tested routinely as part of an ongoing stability program and have proven to be stable for a minimum of five years. The products have also been tested under laboratory and rugged outdoor conditions to determine their safety and efficacy. Field Tests - Sawyer's Bonding Base® Sun Blocks were tested in a variety of actual field use situations, beyond the scope of what is required by the FDA, and were found to show the following: ? Resists the combination of perspiration and water abrasion ? Resists physical abrasion (clothes may be worn over these sunscreens) ? Maintains efficacy at high altitude (tested above 9000 ft.) ?
