Product reviews of The Original InStyler Rotating Hot Iron Hair Straightener Review: Dangerous! Should be recalled! Beauty product: 1 Stars
I received this as a gift for mother's day and was excited to try it since i have frizzy hair. I was so disappointed in its performance, though. The Remington wet iron i own works far better than this at straightening hair and reducing frizz. Additionally, the wet iron is a lot easier to use and much safer.
Even more frustrating, however, is the propensity the instyler has to burn the user. The instyler came with a very small and optional guard, which i installed because i always try to be cautious when trying out a new product. The guard, however, gives a false sense of security and actually increases your likelihood to burn yourself because it appears that the guard will protect you, but in reality, the guard is located on the top of the iron, not the side where you are most likely to burn yourself.
Both my daughter and I now have horrible burns where the instyler touched our skin. The instyler is so hot that it burns more quickly than any other iron i have used and by the time you feel the burn, it is way too late. I had a second degree burn and my daughter got a third degree burn that left an ugly scar on her forehead. I'm surprised this iron is allowed to remain on the market!
Please pay attention to all the negative reviews and save yourself the money and protect your skin by using a better straightening iron!
Review: Decent product, lacks quality Beauty product: 3 Stars
I received this item yesterday and have used it twice. It does a nice job on my hair, however I am a little concerned with how long it will hold up. It seems like it is made very cheap. If you put any amount of pressure while clamping down on your hair it makes a dragging/clunking noise. Like I said, it does a nice job straightening my hair and it is easy to use. If I knew of a similar product that was made better I would definitely buy it. The information about this product is slightly misleading, because you are still pressing your hair in between two metal plates, so it does the same thing as a straightening or curling iron. Overall I think it is overpriced for the quality, but I do like it.
Review: Defective Beauty product: 1 Stars
This item came in defective. I'm fighting to get my money back from a very irresponsible vendor.
Review: Definantly not worth the money! Beauty product: 1 Stars
BOOOO!!!!! I so looked forward to receiving this product! The very first swipe I took with this device I knew I had made a huge mistake. I am so glad that I purchased this item on Amazon because I am returning mine for a refund. UNLESS you have straight, fine hair I do not see how this could possibly work for anyone. To all who have given this product great reviews... God bless you all! .... you must have already pretty amazing hair! I for one have very curly spiral permed hair. This product with two or three swipes did not straighten my hair. My hair did not look healthy or moisturized. I immediately plugged in my "old faithful" and I am now convinced that more expensive is not always better. I was using my "old faithful" $45 Remington wet to dry 2 " flat iron which I purchased at Walmart 3 years ago prior to this purchase. With my hair slightly damp it completely straightens and conditions! My hair is completely straight and shiny in one swipe! With the instyler I used only a one inch section of hair and went over it three times and it still was not straight, nor shiny... even on the highest setting! I could feel hair being pulled out by the bristles on the brush. I never lose hair with my Remington. To me, the Instyler feels cheap (lightweight and plastic) and does not clamp down on the hair. Personally I felt this was a terrific waste of money!
Review: Definitely doesn't work like it does on TV... Beauty product: 2 Stars
This works great...for the folks on TV. In real life, it made my bangs stick out at odd angles and it made them look like they were fried...SOOO not the look I was going for. I have a short to medium length bob, so this should have been the perfect styling tool. Please note my use of the words SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
My biggest gripe is that instead of the hair coming out nice and smooth as shown on TV, it seems to grab the hair underneath and pull it up backwards through the bristles, which makes a VERY nice "rat's nest" for you to have to try to comb out. I've tried several different things to avoid this, but nothing seems to work. As for getting the little curl under or flip up at the end, well, that created an even bigger tangle for me to deal with.
It does get hot, but not very fast, and if you take super tiny sections the tangles aren't quite so bad. It does appear to polish the strands as stated on TV and it does give the hair a nice shine. It creates great volume at the crown if you have shorter hair there. If you have hair that is pretty short, though, please be aware that the roller part of this is large, so anything shorter than maybe 4 inches is going to be too short to even try to do lest you end up with major burns.
Oh, also, on TV during the demos, you'll notice that they use an Instyler that has red "accents" while the one you get has yellow. Perhaps that is the reason it works so much better on TV.
