Product reviews of TheBalm Stainiac Review: I don't understand how this received good reviews Beauty product: 1 Stars
I am obsessed with the lip stains- a pricey endeavor I tell you- and a risky one when it comes to the right color, b/c alot of the colors don't transfer well on computer screens; so you never really know what you are in for. After purchasing the body shop stain(and it having too much of a purple base) I changed my mind from purchasing beauty queen to prom queen; Big mistake! let me see.. I have so many complaints about this product I don't know where to begin. I purchased the staniac b/c it was a little cheaper- and thus less risky; plus it recieved rave reviews; Herein lies my complete and utter confusion... Number one: the prom queen has an "orangey" base..worse than using cheap strawberry jam on your face (the colors are very similiar); How this is supposed to look even remotely natural and/or flattering (unless you are seven years old) I have no idea..Number two: the product DOES NOT absorb into the lips- I tried to layer hoping the color would darken and the consistency became like peeling semi dried elmers glue; the more I put on - the more the product combined and rubbed itself off- if that makes any sense; It has no staying power b/c it does not go on- it works better on the cheeks if you put powder on top to tone down that ugly orange base. Plus, as I've said, the consistency is just awful. Number three:I read the back instructions; It says to "keep product cool"; okay.. maybe in the shipping my product might have been exposed to over what 68 degrees? Am I supposed to keep it in my fridge? I regret the purchase of this item almost more than ANY other makeup item I have EVER purchased (and that is saying alot- I've probably purchased hundreds of makeup items ;see my other reviews). This item is unuseable-and I'm sure I'll loose money shipping it back. I'd compare the balm staniac to the fake makeup you buy little girls: overly bright, poor quality, and does not stay put/work properly. I write this review in hopes of lowering my buyers remorse by warning others not to make the same mistake :P The only thing this product has going for it is the consistencey is easier to work with; But what does that matter really if it won't work/stay on properly.
Seriously save your money- as of yet the Benetint (while expensive) really is the best stain I have tried so far- the only one that looks natural, flattering, and has any staying power- I have not tried Nars. I have tried : the beauty shop(too maroon), the balm of course, vincent longo baby boo (too purple/dark), benetint, and liptini(dark brown base/too dark); I should have stuck with benetint- and we'll see if my curiosity get's the better of me on future stain products.
2/22/07 update: if you're looking for a great flattering stain: check out tarte "rise and shine" in pink(so perfect, and the gloss is better than lip venom), urban decay lip envy in "envious"(not yet on amazon- but well worth going through someone else- great smell and taste), or Bourjois lip pen in #1 or #2 (great precision- long lasting).
