Product reviews of Un-Petroleum Multi-Purpose Jelly 3.50 Ounces

Review: Un-Petroleum
Beauty product: 5 Stars

The shipping was so fast on this product I couldn't be happier with "Dream Universe"!!! I've only used this product a couple times (for dry skin; chapped lips) so far so good.

Review: Very hydrating but tad greasy
Beauty product: 5 Stars

This product definitely hydrates in an instant. However, only use it at bedtime on eyes and forehead. spreads funky, but when I woke up in the morning I looked so radiant (not my normal morning look).

Review: i love this stuff
Beauty product: 5 Stars

I gave up petroleum-based toiletries years ago (not because mineral oil & petroleum application to skin is like wrapping cells in plastic wrap-- c'mon, naturalNess, exaggerate much? i can offer many reasons why it makes sense to drop mineral oil & petroleum products, but that's not one of them-- human skin actually responds very well to mineral oil & petrolatum-- hence the popularity of baby oil & vaseline, and why so many of us who are so happy to have found this product were looking for such a product to begin with. we love what vaseline feels like and achieves, we just don't like what it IS), and had been making do with various plant-based oils, butters and salves. my skin is as great as ever... but every winter, i'd think back to the economical and effective standby that my mother always had at the ready for chapped lips, noses and elbows and wish there was an equivalent plant-based product out there.

thank goodness there IS.

alba's un-petroleum jelly is so close in texture, consistency, skin-feel and emollience to that of vaseline that most people simply can't tell the two products apart*. if you've been looking for a non-petroleum-based, or plant-based, alternative to vaseline, THIS. IS. IT.

though it's not as gosh-dang CHEAP as actual vaseline, it will still last a very long time and prove to be a good purchase over that time. i know that one of the supposed pluses of vaseline and other petrolatum products is that they don't ever really spoil, no matter how much light, air and foreign matter they're exposed to (inorganic, does not go rancid and is therefore pretty much indefinitely shelf-stable; fully oil-based, and therefore does not readily support the colonization efforts of bacteria, yeast, funguses or other life-- it stays pretty clean), but alba's formulation includes a healthy dose of vitamin E in two forms, both of which are, presumably, intended to extend the shelf life of the plant oils used in the formula. while Alba's un-petroleum, being a natural and plant-based product, is destined for eventual spoilage, the vitamin E and the closed, opaque tube container should stave off oxidation for at least a year. My current tube is nearly a year-and-a-half old, and there has been no noticeable change in color, texture, scent or performance. While I do indulge in fancy-pants serums and exotic oils for my face, this has become my go-to tube for my much-abused hands and feet, and my chapped lips and nose during winter racing and nose-blowing season. it has become invaluable. i wish there was a vegan version!

*(ps btw, there is a *slight* difference in how they absorb into the skin, but it's not noticeable to most and your skin will still feel *excellent* after use. i also want to recruit a male marathoner to try this instead of vaseline in a race to see if it holds up as long-distance chafing protection as well as vaseline does, but so far i haven't had any volunteers...)

Review: not too bad
Beauty product: 4 Stars

This stuff it good, feels like youre using aquaphor or vaseline but its good to know its more natural.

Review: used for allergies
Beauty product: 5 Stars

I read somewhere that if you put Vaseline in your nostrils, it would trap the pollen and help with allergies. I didn't want to put petroleum jelly in my nose so I tried the product and it worked well.
