Review: Awesome Eyelash Curler But Be Careful of Imitations

The Shu Uemura Eyelash curler works wonders on eyelashes. Mine are naturally straight, and all it takes are a couple of 15-second presses to keep them curled all day (with the help of a coat or two of mascara). I use the curler five to six times a week, and the two pads last about an average of seven months for me. It's unfortunate that you have to buy a whole new curler instead of just the refill pads, but I suppose you get what you pay for.
Now, a word of caution to anyone who purchases from websites such as Amazon or Ebay: beware of imitations! A real Shu Uemura eyelash curler should open and close smoothly and take little effort for you to work it. It should come with two pads, one already in the curler and one wrapped separately. Both pads should be soft, smooth, somewhat pliable to the touch and have "shu uemura" stamped on the underside. Also check the packaging: the print should not be crooked on any of the flaps or sides. Besides the Shu Uemura site, Sephora and Ulta are the only vendors that I know of that always sell the genuine product.
